Doctor Who Adventures Magazine Daleks

Thanks to the Doctor Who Miniatures Game - DWG WG facebook page tip I rushed out yesterday to purchase 12 free Daleks given away in the Doctor Who Adventures comic. I say free, not having little ones as an excuse or definitely too old for the target market, I paid £2.70 for 12 hard plastic Daleks. The models are cast in 2 halves and are hollow and are the new love 'em or hate 'em design. Since I'm of the view any Dalek is better than no Daleks I'm a proud owner of  36 of the lovelies. The plastic is the same type used in Airfix models and I've broken a laser already due to my rough handling as I though they would be the soft plastic the Silurians and Weeping Angels were made of.

They look the right scale, this picture has a 28mm Warlord Games Crimean War Brit for comparison.

Hail Caesar Dacian Sumplement

My copy arrived yesterday after I  missed the delivery man on Monday, and having read it I'm very pleased with my purchase. I don't own a Dacian army, that's one on the list of 'need' but I do have Celt one that can stand in and a plenty of Sarmation like cavalry. As with all Warlord publications it's really nicely set out with lots of eye candy, although personally I would have preferred more pictures of large games. In my opinion a good potted history of the period is included and some good scenarios and campaign idea. The highlight for me is the added bonus of simple skirmish rules and siege or rather storming rules. I also liked the suggested rule amendment allowing Roman archers to fire over infantry if they are in a support position so long the infantry are not in combat.

Unlike my potential Dacian stand in's my Romans are an eclectic mix of old figures and I now have a desire to upgrade. I think I have the start in my plastic mountain.

As for the storming rules, I feel the need to dust of my Grand Manner Troy. Now I do have the figures for that.

Great supplement, because if it's got me dreaming of what I can do then it for me it's money well spent mwhahaha!

Wargaming survey

I saw this on Trouble at T'Mill's blog and gave it a go. I agree with his comment that's interesting so I've copied and paste his text here:

Via Rich Clarke on the Lardies' list:

I met up with a very pleasant young chap the other day from the War Studies Department at KCL who interviewed me as part of his thesis (presumably entitled "What do fat old blokes know about studying war?"). Anyway, he has sent me a questionaire which he would like as wide a sample of wargamers as possible to answer. So, in the interest of helping a pleasant young fellow I thought I'd invite the boys and girls here to have their say. So here it is:

An interesting questionnaire - certainly made me think, and worth a few minutes of your time.
